Spine Metrics

Spine Metrics' X-Ray Digitizing Services

Doctors submit ordinary x-rays (click to view specific guidelines) and Spine Metrics produces a structural and functional assessment using spinal measurement software. The results are reported in graphical, tabular and narrative formats.

Spine Metrics Provides the Following Analysis:

Impairments lateral cervical and lumbar; sagittal plane
Sectional Analysis Frontal and sagittal plane
Full Spine Analysis    Frontal and sagittal plane
Motion Analysis Frontal and sagittal plane
Scoliosis Analysis Frontal and sagittal plane

Impairments:  Cervical and Lumbar

This process uses the method of the AMA Guides 4th, 5th and 6th Editions based on Alteration of Motion Segment Integrity (AOMSI). AOMSI is determined from rotational and translational changes between motion segments. (click to see REFERENCES Cervical Impairment Report)

If detected the finding indicates a 25% whole body impairment.

X-ray Views Required:

        - Cervical flexion and extension

        - Lumbar Flexion and extension

Sectional and Full Spine

Sectional views are analyzed separately and then combined into a full spine interpretation. The patient findings are compared to a spine in fully organized and balanced compensation.

The analyses assess the following in the frontal plane:

  • position of one vertebra to another
  • regional organization of vertebral rotations based on normal coupling,
  • balance of one region to another and
  • global balance of the spine.

When a full analysis is performed a graphical map of the spine is created for treatment consideration.

graphical spine mapLeft Window: We compare the position of each of your vertebra (yellow bars) to the position of a fully organized spinal system (blue bars) and determine the vertebra that need to be repositioned (red bars).

Right Window: Our spinal measurement software also measures the lateral bends in the spine and compare it to a well-balanced functional spine (green line). Adjustment and rehabilitation procedures are recommendations to re-balance the spine.

sagittal plane analysis

Sagittal Plane Analysis

The sagittal plane analyses assess the patient findings to that of an intact uninjured spine. The patient’s geometric departure from an optimum curve is quantified and classified into severity categories.

Motion Analysis

Sagittal Plane

Flexion extension analyses of the cervical and lumbar regions in another aspect of our spinal measurement software.  These analyses assess segmental symmetry of motion and compare the results to normal ranges of motion. Segmental motions are summed to determine true regional range of motion flexion to extension. From this information adjustment vectors are determined.

Complex calculations are performed to assess the coupling relationship of lateral bending to vertebral rotation and disc angulation.  This analysis identifies functional deficits at specific vertebral levels and provides direction for clinical intervention.

Scoliosis Analysis

scoliosis analysis

We calculate the functional and structural components of the scoliosis and provide you with a blueprint of your patient's spine from our spinal measurement software. From this information, a scoliosis rehabilitation program is determined specific to the patient's needs.
